The coalition of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government forces, engaged in a prolonged conflict with the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC) an alliance that includes the M23 and Twirwaneho movement groups has reportedly lost morale and is no longer actively fighting, merely waiting for an official declaration of final defeat.

This revelation comes from a message received by MCN from a fighter within the AFC/M23 coalition, which opposes the Kinshasa government and seeks to bring an end to President Félix Tshisekedi’s rule.

According to this fighter, who requested anonymity, the determination of government troops has dwindled significantly, and they are essentially defeated.

He stated: “Our enemy has lost all motivation. There’s virtually no one left to fight. The only ones still visible are those looting and firing randomly to clear their path.”

He added that government forces whom he referred to as their enemies have completely pulled back from all the areas they once targeted in attacks, both in South Kivu and North Kivu.

He cited as an example the recent capture of Pinga by AFC/M23 movements on Thursday. He noted that the government forces offered no resistance, fleeing the area without even trying to secure it.

Furthermore, in skirmishes that occurred on Friday, June 6, 2025, in areas surrounding Pinga during an AFC/M23 operation to expand their positions DRC government troops were reportedly overwhelmed and fled without engaging in significant combat, unlike in previous encounters.

He said: “On Friday, it was as if they were simply surrendering. They left the Pinga outskirts without putting up any resistance. Their morale is completely broken.”

Previously, even around the time of the fall of Goma and Bukavu, pro-government forces under President Félix Tshisekedi’s, although losing ground, at least demonstrated a willingness to resist. But now, the situation appears to have deteriorated significantly.

The rebel also claimed that government forces stationed in Uvira are merely waiting to be attacked in order to flee.

He added: “Even those in Uvira are just waiting for gunfire as a signal to escape.”

Major offensives by the DRC Armed Forces against Twirwaneho and M23 were last recorded in late May across Fizi ,Kabare, Mwenga, Walungu,Uvira, and Kalehe territories in South Kivu, as well as Walikale, Masisi, Lubero, and Rutshuru in North Kivu.

However, according to this fighter, the remaining government attacks are now limited to acts of looting and destruction, rather than coordinated military offensives. He concluded by asserting that AFC/M23 now controls the eastern region, and only Kinshasa and a few other provinces remain to be captured in order to complete their mission.
