Brigadier General Charles Sematama, the leader of the Twirwaneho group, has announced that his group will join forces with M23 to put a final end to the rule of President FĂ©lix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Twirwaneho is an armed group that operates in the highlands of the Fizi, Mwenga, and Uvira territories, specifically in the Mulenge area of South Kivu, in the eastern part of the DRC.
Yesterday, through its leader, Brig. Gen. Sematama, also known as “Intare-batinya,” the group confirmed its decision to ally with M23 in the fight against President FĂ©lix Tshisekedi and his government.
In an interview with Voice of America, Charles Sematama stated that after the death of their former leader, Colonel Michel Rukunda, also known as Makanika, they could no longer stand by and watch, leading to their decision to join forces with those opposing the Kinshasa government to help protect civilians.
He said: “We will join forces with M23 because they also aim to remove the Kinshasa government. We are fighting the government, and we are all working to overthrow it.”
Sematama also claimed that his group had taken control of Minembwe and had also entered Mikenke. Additionally, he stated that they are determined to fill the void left by Makanika, whom he has now succeeded.
