This marks the fifth edition of this initiative, which is considered a major campaign aimed at improving the well-being of citizens through cooperation between security agencies (the military and police) and the general public.
Rwanda stands out for its ongoing programs in which the national army provides assistance to citizens across various parts of the country.
Colonel Désiré Migambi stated that these programs have brought positive changes to the lives of beneficiaries. He noted that last year, similar activities took place in Tanzania, but this year, Rwanda will host them.
Known as the “EAC CIMIC Week” (Civil-Military Cooperation Week), this initiative is implemented by the armed forces of EAC member states, including Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, and Tanzania.
Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Kimani, representing the EAC military experts group, emphasized that the main goal of this event is to strengthen collaboration between citizens and security forces, so that the population sees these forces as partners in development, not merely as providers of security.
He said: “We want to engage with citizens and bring them services that benefit them, so they can trust us more and see us as partners in development. This also supports the broader goal of promoting unity within the East African Community.”
The week will feature joint activities between the military and initiatives already underway in Rwanda, including security cooperation between the army and police that started in recent months. It is expected to conclude on July 4, 2025, which coincides with Rwanda’s 31st Liberation Day anniversary.
This will be the first time Rwanda has hosted this event since 2019.
