This attack happened just a short while ago on this Tuesday when FARDC launched an airstrike on areas inhabited by the Banyamulenge people.

The airstrike targeted Lundu, in the Buhimba area, where Banyamulenge civilians reside, as well as Nyarujoka, another area with a significant Banyamulenge population.

One of the local residents from these areas told us that the aircraft launched the attack from Kisangani, where the headquarters of FARDC’s Third Military Zone, led by Lieutenant General Pacifique Masunzu, is located.

Last week, a drone attack was also launched from Kisangani on a location called Gakangala. This attack resulted in the death of General Rukunda Michel Intwari, a hero of the Banyamulenge and their defender. It also caused significant destruction, forcing many civilians to flee to the forests and mountains, including children.

A photograph shared online shows a thick black smoke cloud above Buhimba in Lundu, taken as the aircraft was bombing the area.

Currently, most of the people affected by the attack are still in hiding, making it difficult to determine the full extent of the damage. However, several houses made of grass and iron sheets were destroyed and collapsed immediately.
