Endoscopy is a modern medical technique that involves inserting a small device with a camera through the mouth, allowing internal examination and treatment without surgery.

The child’s mother said she was initially told that surgery would be required to remove the coin.

However, specialized doctors in gastrointestinal diseases (Gastroenterology) managed to remove the coin quickly and non-invasively, allowing the child to recover without the risks associated with surgery.

Endoscopic treatment is one of the most advanced medical techniques, offering effective care with shorter recovery times and less pain compared to traditional surgery. CHUK reports that these services are continuing to make a significant impact in Rwanda’s healthcare system.

This procedure is a symbol of progress in Rwandan medicine, particularly in the use of non-invasive technology, and brings hope to families and parents of children facing similar medical challenges.
