Reports indicate that on Thursday, February 13, 2025, heavy clashes erupted in the Kasheke-Kabamba area, approximately 15 kilometers from Kavumu Airport, between M23 forces and a coalition of government troops.

Local sources confirm that M23 has seized control of the area and is continuing its advance towards Kavumu. In a press statement released yesterday, the Congolese military condemned M23 for violating the ceasefire, accusing the group of engaging in both negotiations and active combat.

Meanwhile, leaders of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in their recent summit in Tanzania, called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Despite these calls, fighting persists. In a recent statement, M23 reaffirmed its commitment to continuing military operations, citing alleged abuses against civilians in Bukavu and its surrounding areas by FARDC troops and their allies as justification for their actions.
