On the night of Wednesday leading into Thursday, the body of the deceased was discovered lying on the ground.

Some of those who saw Muyoboke’ s body could not determine the exact cause of his death, but there are suspicions that he was murdered.

One witness said: “We don’t know exactly what caused this man’s death! But we suspect he was killed because of his identity.”

The same person added: “When will we be rescued here in Kalemie? The killings targeting the Tutsi people continue.”

Kalemie recently became a refuge for many armed groups, including Interahamwe, FARDC soldiers, and Wazalendo militias aligned with the government. These forces arrived there from Uvira, in South Kivu, after the M23 movement took control of Kamanyola, a town they captured following their takeover of Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu Province.

It is reported that those who fled from Uvira are the ones now committing massacres against the Banyamulenge, whom they accuse of collaborating with the M23 Movement. However, these killings of the Banyamulenge in Kalemie started long ago, previously carried out by armed groups, including Maï-Maï militias and others.
