According to a resident of Minembwe, trusted sources within the army and their allies have confirmed that government forces are gathering and preparing for operations.

The report says many soldiers from FARDC (the DRC army), along with FDLR, Burundian troops, and fighters from the Wazalendo militia, have already arrived in Baraka and in Ndondo near Bijombo. Some of these forces have moved toward Mikenke, while others are preparing to attack Rugezi.

Areas like Point Zero, Mulima, and other parts of Mutambara are seeing an increase in military presence from both Congolese and Burundian troops, which is making local residents very worried.

These forces are said to be planning an attack on Minembwe and to take control of the airstrips in both Minembwe and Mikenke. The government considers these airstrips to be under the control of Twirwaneho and M23, groups that oppose the state.

This news comes despite Sunday being peaceful. On Saturday, however, there were heavy clashes between these government forces and the Twirwaneho/M23 alliance. FARDC and its allies had attacked Mikenke from Gipupu and Rugezi from Gasiro.

The fighting ended with the AFC alliance, which includes M23 and Twirwaneho, claiming a strong victory. They managed to push the government troops and their allies out of several areas in South Kivu Province.

The AFC/M23 alliance is growing stronger and putting pressure on President Félix Tshisekedi’s government, while the state appears determined to retake all the territories currently held by the AFC by force if necessary.

Although the exact number of government troops preparing for battle is unknown, signs suggest that fighting could resume within hours or days. Residents are being urged to remain alert, and KIVU PRIDE will continue to follow the situation closely and provide updates.
