President Tshisekedi made this statement during a meeting with representatives of different religious denominations operating in the DRC on the evening of February 11, 2025.
Some of the religious leaders who attended the meeting included the head of the Kimbanguism Church and representatives of the Muslim community in the DRC. The discussions, led by Catholic bishops and representatives of the Anglican Church, mainly focused on the need for urgent dialogue to find a solution to the insecurity in eastern DRC, particularly in Goma, which has already been taken over by the M23 Movement.
Archbishop Yamapia Evariste, the legally recognized leader of the Revival Church, who led the delegation, stated that President Félix Tshisekedi invited them because he wants them to unite their efforts in restoring peace in eastern DRC.
As a resolution from this meeting, the religious leaders decided to organize peaceful demonstrations and hold extended prayer sessions dedicated to calling for peace in the eastern part of the country.
This comes at a time when Cardinal Ambongo recently urged President Félix Tshisekedi to engage in negotiations with M23.
Ambongo made this appeal as a follow-up to the recent summit of EAC and SADC heads of state, which recommended that the Kinshasa government engage in negotiations with opposing armed groups, including M23, as a way to resolve ongoing conflicts.
