President William Ruto has heaped praise on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, describing him as a principled, non-tribal leader who embodies the spirit of national unity and responsibility. “Sasa niko Na Deputy. Ni mtu muadilifu, si mkabila, si mtu wa kisirani, chuki ama hasira,” the President said in Swahili, which translates to: “now I have a Deputy. He is a man of integrity, not tribal, not quarrelsome, hateful, or quick-tempered.”

Ruto went on to emphasize that Kindiki understands the magnitude of his office, noting that he does not confine his responsibilities to his ethnic background or region.

“Ni mtu anaelewa kuwa yeye si Deputy President wa Meru pekee, bali wa Kenya nzima. I am proud of him,” Ruto affirmed, underscoring the DP’s nationalistic approach to governance.

The statement comes amid growing speculation over succession politics and internal alignments within the ruling coalition. Political analysts view the President’s remarks as a strong endorsement of Kindiki’s national stature and a possible positioning for future leadership roles.

Professor Kithure Kindiki, a seasoned lawyer and former Interior Cabinet Secretary, was appointed Deputy President following the 2024 constitutional realignment that split executive responsibilities between the President and Deputy. Since then, Kindiki has maintained a low-key but firm approach to governance, earning praise for his professionalism and calm demeanor.

His commitment to national cohesion and zero tolerance for ethnic politics has endeared him to a cross-section of leaders and citizens alike.

As the political landscape begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, President Ruto’s public admiration for his deputy is likely to spark interest and debate within the political class and beyond.
