Rwanda and Denmark Sign Agreement on Climate Change Adaptation

Rwanda and Denmark have signed a cooperation agreement on climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation.

The agreement was signed on Sunday, 21st January 2024.

Rwanda was represented by the Minister of Environment, Dr. Mujawamariya Jeanne d’Arc, while Denmark was represented by Dan Jannik Jørgensen.

The signing ceremony took place at Nyandungu Eco Park.

Rwanda is one of the leading countries in environmental conservation, and has demonstrated commitment by implementing various initiatives aimed at biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation.

On the other hand, Denmark is one of the leading countries in sustainable development and combating the effects of climate change.

It is also one of the countries that generate the highest percentage of its energy from renewable sources, with over 40% of its energy coming from renewable sources.

Denmark has also committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.

The Ministry of Environment in Denmark has indicated that achieving these targets will require significant investments in renewable energy, as well as measures to reduce emissions and promote sustainable practices.

Denmark has also made progress in transitioning to a circular economy, where waste is minimized and resources are reused.

The agreement between Rwanda and Denmark is seen as a milestone in their cooperation on climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation.

Many countries have agreements on various levels, including political and humanitarian issues.

Denmark has also extradited individuals suspected of participating in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, including Dushimiyimana Emmanuel and Wenceslas Twagirayezu, who were extradited in 2014 and 2018 respectively.
