Sometimes life leads you to places you never expected, as if a hidden miracle lies beneath the surface. That’s how it happened for Miss Kayibanda Aurore, Miss Rwanda 2012, who met her husband Gatera Jacques in an unexpected place not at a glamorous event, a meeting, or even on social media, but at Kigali Golf Club.

It wasn’t a party or a conference, but a golf course an arena marked by calm, elegance, and composure that became the setting for the beginning of a new journey filled with love, connection, and the building of a shared life.
In a calm and confident interview with ‘IGIHE’, Miss Aurore reflected on how her relationship with Gatera Jacques began. She revealed that they met through mutual friends at Kigali Golf Club.
“We were introduced by friends. Although I had once considered trying golf, I wasn’t really into the sport. That day I showed up, we met, we talked, and even started playing together,” she said with a smile, painting a picture of a memorable and special day.
According to Aurore, Gatera Jacques didn’t use golf as a pretext to get close to her. Rather, he was genuinely passionate about the sport and valued sharing it with others who were interested.
“I wouldn’t say he pretended to teach me golf just to get to know me. He’s a genuine person, a true lover of the game, and someone who enjoys sharing what he knows. That’s how our journey started naturally, yet unexpectedly.”
A decade after being crowned Miss Rwanda, Aurore says she has entered a new and dignified chapter of life. Becoming a wife has brought her a new sense of purpose and a place to grow.
“A lot has changed. When I was Miss, I lived with my parents, but now I have my own home. I’ve become an adult with my own responsibilities. It’s a beautiful thing because marriage helps you grow in every way,” she said thoughtfully, her voice full of gratitude for how far she’s come.
While many still remember her as a graceful beauty queen, her life has since taken a quieter, more focused path one rooted in peace and intentionality.
She added: “Life changes when you enter this journey. You start thinking differently. You begin to value your home, to think about the future not just for yourself, but in partnership with someone else.”
Unlike many public figures who shy away from sharing their private lives, Aurore’s story doesn’t come off as an attempt to surprise the world, but rather as a reflection of a love built on respect, calm, and meaning.
When she speaks, there’s no arrogance or pretense of having reached the top; instead, she expresses gratitude for having found a good place in life a relationship grounded in mutual respect, companionship, and trust.
Her love story with Gatera Jacques began simply but was full of a shared desire to connect, collaborate, and build a life together an experience that, in a short time, became something significant: a home.
