Goma: Eight People Suspected of Recruiting Fighters for M23 Arrested
Security forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo have arrested eight individuals in the city of Goma on suspicion of recruiting fighters for the M23.
The Mayor of Goma, Faustin Kapend Kamand, announced that seven other people were also apprehended from various parts of Goma and its outskirts, particularly in the Nyiragongo territory.
He stated, “This youth from Nyiragongo, along with others from Majengo, Kasika, and Katoy, admitted to disarming a police officer last week when they had blocked the roads.”
Kapend explained that the eight individuals came from areas controlled by M23 and were brought to Goma and its surroundings as part of efforts to recruit fighters for this armed group.
On August 17, Kapend also reported the arrest of 16 individuals in Goma, suspected of various crimes in the city, including some who claimed to be part of the group ‘Wazalendo’.
